Dispatches from Ukraine 1,069.

Donetsk region. The systematic artillery of Russia and Bombs attacks slides opposite to the Donetsk region in Ukraine killed two civilians and wounded six more in the last 3 days.

Kharkiv region. In Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv province, a Russian glide bomb struck a residential area two miles from the frontlines, near the city of Kupyansk, killing two women on Jan. 26.

DNIPROPETROVSK region. An attack of Russian drones opposed to the Oblast of the center of the East, or the region, broken apartments and caused a chimney in the city of Dnipro at the end of January 27. No victim has been informed.

A joint survey by independent Russian newspapers Mediazona and BBC News Russian has found more than 90,000 deaths by the Russian military since its invasion of Ukraine. Meticulously studied by compiling knowledge from obituaries, army memorials and cemetery archives, the report shows a balance that far exceeds the Kremlin’s official figures. In particular, only about 10,000 new patients have been verified in the beyond 3 months.

Military mavens estimate that this public archives investigation can probably constitute only forty and 65% of Moscow’s losses, suggesting that the real number of Russian deaths can range between 13,500 and 200,000 years when fallen troops, adding that The remains have not yet been recovered. Including victims between the separatist forces in the regions of Donetk and Luhansk of eastern Ukraine, general losses aligned through Russian can succeed between 159,500 and 223,500 soldiers.

Ukraine has also suffered a really extensive toll, with at least 68,000 army deaths verified to date. Civilian casualties in Ukraine exceeded another 12,160 people killed and 26,900 wounded Ukrainian officials who estimate more than 20,000 deaths in the southeastern city of Eried Mariupol.

On January 27, the European Union prolonged its sanctions opposed to Russia in reaction to the current war in Ukraine for another six months. The renewal was almost blocked through Hungary, which in the past had threatened with a veto. However, Budapest agreed to help the extension after the EU issued a promising to continue discussions about the source of energy through Ukraine, addressing Hungary considerations about the postponement of Russian fuel traffic.

Since the invasion of Russia in 2022, the EU has imposed 15 cycles of sanctions, Hungary calling its suspension. The last extension follows weeks of diplomatic tension, partly motivated through objections of Hungary to Ukraine, interrupting the delivery of Russian fuel in Europe through its territory on January 1.

Amid mounting casualties, North Korea is readying additional troops to bolster Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine, with plans to send reinforcements within the next two months. Of the 11 thousand North Korean troops sent to Russia’s Kursk region last fall, at least 300 have been killed and approximately 2,700 injured. Meanwhile Moscow’s support for North Korea’s missile development, in exchange for reinforcements, is fueling continued weapons tests.

North Korean forces, incorporated into Russian marine and aerial units, would be used in high -risk assaults, which would result in strong victims, express figures of victims remain without revealing. At the beginning of January, the Ukrainian forces captured the first two POWS in northern North Korea.

The Euroclear CEO, Valerie Urbain, warned that the confiscation of Russian frozen assets can cause accidental consequences that can destabilize global monetary markets. Pressure that any asset seizure would force EU members to assume liabilities related to possible Russian demands.

Urbain drew parallels to the long-standing case of Iranian assets, underscoring the risks of such a precedent. With the United Nations affirming Russia’s responsibility to pay $500 billion in reparations, questions persist about how to unlock these funds. Europe holds $165 billion in frozen Russian assets, with additional funds held outside the EU. While the EU has used the profits from these frozen assets to aid Ukraine, the legal and financial complexities of full confiscation remain contentious.

Ukraine’s national debt increased by $20 billion in 2024, reaching a total of $166 billion by year-end, according to the Ministry of Finance. External debt of $120 billion accounted for over 70% of total debt. Earlier this month, Forbes Ukraine calculated that Kyiv’s national debt increased to nearly $170 billion, reaching 92% of the nation’s GDP.

Ukraine condemned the presidential elections of January 26 in Bélarus, his northern neighbor, with whom he shared a border of six hundred miles, rejecting his legitimacy and highlighting the widespread repression that the process has spoiled. President Alexander Lukashenko, who has ruled the country since 1994, has been about to remain in force until 2030, obtaining almost 87% of the votes in what many victory manipulated with exiled or imprisoned opposition applicants. The EU, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and New Zealand have jointly rejected the elections such as neither loose nor equitable. The country’s elections in 2020 caused mass demonstrations opposed to Lukashenko’s reign, who met with violent repression in the capital, Minsk and throughout the country.

Although Belarusian forces did not directly participate in the Russian war against Ukraine, the invasion was first introduced from Belarusian soil, Russian troops were temporarily advancing towards Kyiv, just 90 miles south of the Belarusian border. In April 2022, Russian forces withdrew from the Ukrainian capital, refocusing their efforts to capture territory in eastern Ukraine.
