Donald Trump says he discussed TikTok in first call with Xi Jinping since 2021

Donald Trump had his first call with Chinese President Xi Jinping since leaving the White House in 2021, and the two leaders discussed Tiktok’s fate before the Supreme Court and confided a law banning enforcement in the United States.

The verbal exchange between the executives was the first in 4 years and he took his position just two days before the law went into effect, forcing retail app outlets to stop him from providing it to users.

“I just spoke to Chairman Xi Jinping of China. The call was a very good one for both China and the U.S.A.,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social media platform on Friday. “We discussed balancing Trade, Fentanyl, TikTok, and many other subjects. President Xi and I will do everything possible to make the World more peaceful and safe!”

China’s Foreign Ministry said the two leaders agreed to “establish a strategic communication channel to maintain normal touch on primary issues of not unusual concern. “

While painting a positive picture of the call, the ministry said Xi warned Trump that the U. S. technique would be a major blow to the call. U. S. The “Taiwan problem” with “caution”.

Beijing claims Taiwan’s sovereignty and refuses to exclude it to occupy the island.

Trump’s incoming national security team has been in contact with Beijing, but the call between the Chinese leader and incoming US president marks the first direct conversation between the men in four years.

The call comes three days before Trump’s inauguration at a rite attended by Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, marking the first time a senior Chinese official has attended a U. S. inauguration.

The Financial Times reported last week that Xi would be sent to Washington after Trump invited the Chinese leader to attend the event.

Some Trump advisers hoped Beijing would send Cai Qi, a member of the Politburo status committee that is very close to XI and exerts much more strength than Han, who replaces XI in ceremonial roles.

Washington and Beijing are waiting to see what kind of policy towards China Trump will reveal at the beginning of their administration. He has threatened to impose price lists on imports from China and many other countries, but it is not clear if he will gain influence on negotiations with Beijing or if negotiations on a possible industrial agreement with China will begin and apply customs tariffs. Tasks if the negotiations are successful. He was not successful.

The verbal exchange occurs two days before the retail points of US applications are forced to avoid the transport of Tiktok, the application to share videos that was downloaded through more than 170 million Americans. On Friday morning, the law was shown in a resolution of the Supreme Court, prohibits the application unless its Chinese owner Bytedance sells the platform.

Trump has expressed for Tiktok, raising whether his management will persecute corporations that violate the law.

Relations between the United States and China fell to their lowest point, as the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1979 under Biden over issues ranging from American exports to the Taiwan disputes.

Although Biden and XI have controlled partially stabilize relations during the year, countries remain on the back of a diversity of problems, adding Chinese for the large -scale invasion of Russia of Ukraine.

Trump has appointed several Falcones from China’s voices to serve in his administration, Mike Waltz as US National Security Advisor and Marco Rubio as Secretary of State.

Scott Bessent, the nominee for Treasury secretary, this week said Trump would push China to buy more US agricultural produce, such as corn and soyabeans which were part of a narrow trade deal he did with China last time.

Bessent said Trump would also be competitive in enforcing export controls that would have effects on China. Beijing has criticized Biden’s leadership for introducing strict export controls on chips and synthetic intelligence-related technologies in an effort to curb the modernization of the People’s Liberation Army.

But China experts are watching closely to see if some of the technology billionaires in Trump’s orbit, such as Elon Musk, will attempt to convince the incoming president to take a less tough stance on the issue.
