Interest of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine in the cultural heritage sites of the Kursk region of Russia

Rostyslav Karandieev, Ukraine’s acting minister of culture and data policy, said Ukraine is interested in monuments to Ukraine’s history located in Russia’s Kursk region. Karandieev asked whether the Ministry of Culture plans to implement humanitarian measures under its jurisdiction on the territory of Russia’s Kursk Oblast, controlled through the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Quote: “These territories have lately had the prestige of combat action zones and there is no option to exhaust civilian humanitarian activities there. In addition, it is to perceive that this is foreign territory and not Ukraine.

At the same time, we are really interested in the monuments of Ukraine’s history in those lands where Ukrainians officially lived not so long ago. That is why, of course, we have so much interest in those territories. . .

We look forward to the opportunity to examine cultural heritage sites on the ground and, in combination with foreign organizations, find answers that will allow us to preserve and recover cultural heritage sites of legal interest to Ukraine.

Details: This is, in particular, the estate of Hetman Ivan Mazepa in the village of Ivanovskoye, Kursk region, which is not only an architectural monument but also a monument of Ukrainian history.  

“We would like to see this facility restored and rebuilt. How and through what means this will be done, and to what extent it will be included in the list of foreign sites of Ukrainian cultural interest, we will see depending on the evolution of the situation,” Array Karandiev said.

To the question of how “Ukrainian interests” in the cultural and ancient sphere can be implemented in those territories, Karandieev replied that the Ukrainian troops there comply with foreign humanitarian law and that the Ministry of Culture is in constant contact with the forces. armed.
