Manchester United host Fulham on the opening matchday this weekend. Remember Fergie’s XI that scared the newly promoted Cottagers in 2001?
Jean Tigana’s league champions turned up at Old Trafford and scared a team made up of two big summer signings by twice taking the lead.
Sir Alex Ferguson was so furious that he then punished Fulham by signing the striker. And one of the United centre-backs who scored the goal never played for Fergie again. Not only for this, but the other reasons were also not falsified.
United, however, responded, thanks in large part to a brace from one of those summer signings.
