TOKYO – Chinese President Xi Jinping met Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Monday and assured her that Beijing values its ties with the European Union’s third-largest economy, state media reported.
Meloni is in Beijing to cement relations that were strained after his government withdrew from Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative. Xi told the prime minister at his meeting that adjustments in global affairs have affected China’s willingness to expand relations with Italy, state media reported.
