On Friday, 10 interns from top schools presented their final presentations to Mon Health System leaders to graduate from Education Alliance’s WV Ready summer internship program.
The WV Ready Summer Internship Program began in the summer of 2019 as a 4-week paid internship program created through The Education Alliance that places fast-growing academics and seniors in West Virginia businesses. Since then, the program has evolved to include reports of in-person, hybrid, and virtual internships that have reduced geographic barriers and allowed more scholars from across the state to participate. This year’s summer internship program placed 30 interns from Cabell, Harrison, Kanawha, Lewis, Mason, Monongalia, Preston, Putnam, and Wayne Counties at 4 West Virginia companies.
The initiative, funded through grants from the American Electric Power Foundation, Rural Action Inc. and Toyota West Virginia, provides internship reports to assisting students who “graduate WV Ready” with the wisdom and skills to succeed after college. high school.
The WV Ready Summer Internship Program at Mon Health included 3 main components: on-site work-integrated learning reports, mentoring, and capstone projects. To develop their professional awareness, interns participated in weekly work-based learning briefings and mentoring meetings with departments across the Mon health system. Students explored departments ranging from oncology and cardiology to environmental and nutrition facilities to better understand the ins and outs of a functioning hospital system.
To complete the internship, Mon Health interns developed a video to show what a day in the life of a patient looks like. This video is presented as part of your final presentation to show your personal expansion and long-term career goals.
“At Mon Health System, we are proud to invest in West Virginia’s long-term through systems like the WV Ready Summer Internship,” said Katie Davison, Mon Health System’s Chief Human Resources Officer. “It’s been a privilege to host those 10 interns this summer and we share with them the wide diversity of health care job opportunities in West Virginia. ”
