Tree debris sites occupied after Wednesday’s storm

MISSOULA — What seemed like an endless line of trucks and trailers passed through Garden City Compost over the weekend, littered with debris from the recent storm.

In true Missoula style, they not only cleaned residents’ yards, but others’ yards as well. Jason Hurt, a resident of Missoula, was there to help his aunt with a big problem.

“Well, my aunt’s car, and in front of her house, has a tree that fell on her, so we are cleaning it, we crashed her car, and we cut it down this morning and now we are going to bring it here. “

Hurt had to take several batches to the composting center, but he settled for it because his aunt needed help and had the right equipment for the job.

“It’s great to have these things to help, you know?” said Hurt.

“So I make a living making flats. So I have a big truck and trailers and all that to help me. So I’m grateful for that.

Now that the weekend is coming, many citizens after all have time to work on their land and unload debris.

However, Missoula Public Works Director Jeremy wishes citizens would stop dumping their debris if they can.

“What we’re asking is for other people to take their time,” Keen said.

“We first have to deal with the protection issues with downed trees, cleaning the streets and fixing the power line issues, and the volume of curtains coming into our composting site and our drop-off sites is huge, so if other people can take their time, will help us manage this load.

People use the Garden City Compost site when possible, as all waste left over at other sites ends up there. Authorities are working to extend opening hours.

The drop-off sites listed above are still available for citizens to drop off typhoon debris free of charge. These sites have been experiencing long wait times lately. Officials are asking citizens with low-priority debris — meaning it is not blocking their driveway or causing other access problems — to wait to drop it off, if possible.
