A 44-year-old man lost his life after falling into a manhole in Delhi’s Burari district, police said on Monday.
The twist of fate occurred on Sunday around 11:00 p. m. near a subway terminal on the beltway, according to authorities.
Police detected that the vehicle, coming from Bhalaswa Dairy, had gone to a detour of the transitory metro and had sunk into the sewers.
Emergency services, together with a PCR van, firefighters and divers from the Eastern District disaster management team, temporarily managed the vehicle about a hundred meters from the site within 20 minutes.
The vehicle, registered in the name of Rajesh Bhutt, a resident of Shalimar Bagh, was recovered using a JCB machine; Bhutt’s body was not immediately recovered.
Divers returned on Monday morning and examined Bhutt’s body. Investigation revealed that Bhutt, who works for a shipping company, was on a solitary voyage on Sunday.
Initial findings recommend the twist of fate caused by reckless and negligent driving.
Eyewitness accounts and the initial investigation led to the registration of one case of Section 281 (Reckless Driving) and 106(1) (Wrongful Death) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further investigations are ongoing.
