The A38 northbound was closed between Alre and the junction for Barton-under-Needwood after a vehicle crashed into a bridge today.
National Highways West Midlands said: “The A38 northbound is closed between the A513 near Alrewas and the B5016 near Barton-under-Needwood.
“The closure is due to a collision with a bridge. A structural inspector is on his way.
“Staffordshire Police are present. “
The road opens around 1 p. m.
The affected road segment is just north of a part of the road that has been closed southbound since earlier in the week while South Staffs Water crews repair a water leak.
