A search is underway for a gunman who shot a police officer Saturday night after the suspect crashed his vehicle following a chase on the streets of West Queens.

The suspect, known for frequenting the Dutch Kills and Astoria neighborhoods, exchanged gunfire with a police officer after crashing his vehicle into another car in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, before fleeing on foot. The gunman reportedly jumped a fence near the crash site and escaped. under the Greenpoint Avenue Bridge that crosses Newtown Creek. The officer was not injured.

The saga began when police from Astoria’s 114th Precinct conducted a traffic stop at 36th Avenue and 34th Street shortly after 8 p. m. , when the suspect driving a gray 2004 Acura TL with Connecticut license plates fled the scene and raced south through Long Island City with police vehicles. in pursuit.

The suspect drove more than 3 kilometers, crossed the Greenpoint Avenue bridge and turned left where he collided with a vehicle in front of a warehouse at 406 Kingsland Ave. Greenpoint, inside the barriers of the 94th Precinct. The suspect’s car caught fire while fleeing on foot in an attempt to evade arrest.

Surveillance cameras captured the suspect firing a handgun at a uniformed police officer who returned fire. The suspect was last seen jumping over a fence and escaping under the Greenpoint Avenue bridge.

No officers were injured in the manhunt and NYPD investigative forces are racing to identify and capture the suspect, who is considered armed and dangerous.

Deputy Operations Commissioner Kaz Daughtry released surveillance footage of the suspect on X that showed him a deli at 50-27 31st St. in Dutch Kills, which he is known to frequent.

“New Yorkers, we want your help in catching another violent and incredibly damaging suspect,” Daughtry wrote. “Fortunately, the police officer was not injured, but this violent offender will have to be arrested before he injures or kills anyone. “
