In his keynote address at the Houston convention in June, Mr. Hernandez highlighted some shipbuilding milestones for the United States, including the ECO Edison, the first Service Operations (SOV) ship built in the United States. ECO has also ordered a pair of articulated barge sets (ATBs) from Bollinger Shipyards in Lockport, Louisiana, which will commit to the maintenance of Maersk Supply Service’s Wind Turbine Installation Vessel (WTIV). The new ATBs, which will be delivered in 2026, will be sent to the facility as part of a force system.
Progress is also being made on the first U. S. -built WTIV, Charybdis, which was unveiled in April at the Seatrium AmFELS in Brownsville, Texas. Delivery is scheduled for late 2024 or early 2025.
Mr. Hernandez also highlighted the groundbreaking of the structure of the first Jones-compliant underwater rock installation vessel, the Acadia, recently under structure at the Philly Shipyard in Philadelphia. When completed, the Great Lakes-owned underwater rock installation vessel Dredge and Dock will be one of only four vessels of its kind in the world with its capacity and capabilities. Designed through Ulstein Design and Solutions as a low-emission vessel, the Acadia will have a battery force garage system, a ground force connection system, will be capable of using biofuel and set ABS SUSTAIN-2 and LEV ratings. Its capacity will be 20,000 tonnes. Clearly, with such a pioneering vessel, Great Lakes Dredge and Dock is aiming for the long-term offshore wind market.
