MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — A man accused of causing a twist of fate in a car that killed a petite woman and then stealing a memorial cross meant for the boy is turning his plea in court.
On Monday afternoon, July 1, at Sheboygan County Courthouse, 24-year-old Nathan Heitzmann pleaded “no contest” in the death of 4-year-old Cordelia Kuether.
In April 2023, Heitzmann ignored a prevention sign and crashed into a van.
The collision killed Kuether, who was walking nearby.
Then, last fall, Heitzmann was accused of stealing a cross that the girl’s relatives had installed at the crossing.
From the plea agreement, Heitzmann replaced his guilty plea on two of the counts.
Judge: “How can the charge be pleaded at this time: murder via vehicle with the use of a controlled substance, a felony of elegance D?
Heitzmann: “No competition, your honor. “
Sheboygan County Judge Rebecca Persick: “Not impeaching means not fighting, and I will convict you of this crime, you understand?”
Heitzmann: “Yes, your honor. “
