Warringtonfire’s upcoming laboratory in Birchwood Park has been recognised with the Caring Builders Bronze Award in partnership with contractor Tilbury Douglas.
Awarded through the Considerate Constructors Scheme, the award recognizes the efforts of structure sites, organizations, and suppliers that are committed to raising the network’s environmental and social value criteria. The Birchwood Park site, which is nearly finished, scored the best out of forty-five out of forty-five.
The report assesses the site on three other pillars: respect for the community, fear for the environment and price for labor. The site earned the most sensible ratings in all categories, earning an “excellent” score and individual praise for its environmental and social policy aspects.
Warringtonfire and Tilbury Douglas have implemented a variety of measures to demonstrate the social value of the site, adding an open space week and hosting a Lightspace construction industry charity presentation on intellectual fitness, encouraging conversations about fitness and wellbeing. The groups also made additional charitable donations to Warrington Youth Zone and the Trussell Trust food bank, and purchased sanitary products for them through the Hey Girls social enterprise.
The report highly commends Warringtonfire and Tilbury Douglas for the project’s environmental commitments, which included a Net Zero 2050 carbon relief plan, avoiding the construction of diesel-powered plants and appliances, selling the use of HVO fuel, and planting more than 50 trees. ISO 14001 accreditation, the foreign standard for environmental control systems, further reinforces the project’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainability.
Local academics from Warrington Vale and the Royal College were also welcomed to National Learning Week, with a number of them submitting long-term work on placements.
