Candlelight Vigil Honors the Life of 18-Year-Old Anthony Hilton III, Who Died in a Fatal Car Crash

BALTIMORE (AP) — A vigil was held Saturday night to commemorate the life of Anthony Hinton III, a Shenandoah University defensive lineman who graduated from Glen Burnie High School and died last week after crashing into a tree.

Friends from Pennsylvania traveled to Maryland on Saturday to honor the life of an 18-year-old.

“I met him when I was about 3 years old,” said Braxton Clarke, Hinton’s former teammate and friend.

Family and friends gathered at the site of Saturday night’s crash in which Anthony Hinton III died after crashing into a tree.

“My brother is a light. . . such a lovely light,” said Lynaie Hinton, Anthony’s sister.

Jayne Hinton, Anthony’s mother, says that her son Anthony, the youngest of the family, is only 18 years old.

Shortly after midnight Wednesday morning, Hinton was driving an Infiniti on the Ritchie Expressway in Brooklyn Park when he got lost, crossed the elevated median and crashed into a tree.

“I love you. Be careful and make smart choices. I told him,” Hinton’s mother said.

Hinton was pronounced dead while a 17-year-old passenger was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

“He’s a smart kid. Every parent was looking for a child like Anthony. . . he’s my most productive friend and I’ll miss him,” Anthony’s father said.

Hinton graduated from Glen Burnie High School and played defensive lineman at Shenandoah University. His nickname is “Manman. ”

“Manman was one of the people who really left an effect on the heart,” Clarke said.

Although he is no longer here, his family circle says that his legacy will live on.

“Everyone here will keep his calling alive no matter what,” said Madyson Hinton, Anthony’s sister.

Police did not release further details about the crash, but said the traffic protection department is investigating the crash.
