The Southcentral Foundation broke ground Tuesday on a new behavioral fitness center in Anchorage. It will offer inpatient behavioral crisis treatment, substance abuse detox beds, and outpatient behavioral conditioning services.
Southcentral Foundation President April Kyle said the new facility will allow physical care providers to better meet the immediate desires of the community.
“We want to continue to expand the detox program,” Kyle said. “It serves the entire community, indigenous and non-indigenous. “
Kyle said the new facility would increase the foundation’s capacity in detox beds by about a third, to 30. Their existing rehab center currently has a waiting list of about ten people. He said the new facility will also offer behavioral fitness crisis stabilization for up to seven days.
“We’re hoping that a lot of other people will participate in this 16-chair crisis stabilization and have the time and want to reintegrate into the community,” Kyle said. “But when someone wants a higher point of attention or a longer time to stabilize, we’re going to have them there. “
The facility, which the Southcentral Foundation says will be completed by early 2026, will be at Elmore and Tudor Roads in Anchorage’s U-Med district.
