In a state where Donald Trump has twice won by more than 40 points, the prevailing political backlash was unleashed against the former president’s conviction on 34 counts, and also promptly led to calls for fundraising.
West Virginia Republican Party Chairman Matt Herridge responded in a video on social media calling the conviction the result of a showcase. Herridge did not object to expressing evidence or decisions, but called the trial highly politicized. He then suggested others donate.
“While other Americans are looking at the situation, we all want to stand up and speak out,” Herridge said.
“I just contributed to President Trump’s campaign and hope we turn this charade into a big fundraising week for the Trump campaign. Republicans will not be deterred. Donald Trump will win in the end, and West Virginia and the other Americans will too. “I’m in a position more than ever to send Donald Trump back to the White House. “
The Manhattan trial ended Thursday afternoon, with the jury finding Trump guilty of all 34 counts of tampering with business records. The convictions were considered misdemeanors because the jury found that Trump had driven to falsify records in an attempt to illegally influence. the 2016 presidential election by going on a date with adult film actress Stormy Daniels out of public scrutiny. The legal theory that a criminal committed one act in order to discharge another.
Trump’s sentencing is scheduled for July 11, days before the Republican National Convention. The 2024 general election is already in full swing, and Trump is headed for a rematch against incumbent President Joe Biden, a Democrat.
He won West Virginia twice by wide margins.
In 2020, Trump won 68. 6% of the vote in the West Virginia general election, compared to Biden’s 29. 7%.
In the state elections in West Virginia, Trump supported Governor Jim Justice in his bid for the U. S. Senate and Attorney General Patrick Morrisey in his bid for governor.
Campaigns for Justice and Morrisey criticized the jury’s verdict Thursday night while also calling for fundraising.
“The guilty verdict against President Trump is a deeply troubling and politicized resolution that undermines principles of justice. President Trump has put America first and fought for the values that make our country great. I will be on Donald J. Trump’s side! Engage in combat today,” the Justice crusade posted on social media, pointing to a link to do so.
Shortly after the verdict was announced, Morrisey posted: “Donald Trump is found guilty. How terrible. This total procedure was rigged against him from the start. Trump wants our help more than ever,” and then logged on to the same fundraising site for Republicans.
The Republican Party’s fundraising Array WinRed, in short, collapsed because of all its national activity. He features a photo of Trump from another criminal case in Georgia and says, “I’m a political prisoner. “
Morrisey also recorded a video on social media calling the verdict “devastating news” and a “miscarriage of justice. “Morrisey argued that the case never made it to trial, calling it impeachment.
“Things that are generally considered a misdemeanor become felonies because you’re looking to get after the Republican presidential nominee. This doesn’t happen in the United States,” he said.
I’m going to continue to work to elect President Trump, and I think the last day for all of us is going to be Election Day, because we’re all going to be Election Day where we can make things happen. I look forward to speaking with you in the coming days and weeks.
