Start by logging into your American Express. Si account coming from your account dashboard page, click “Menu” in the most sensitive left corner, then choose “Trips” to access more features (shown below) and choose “Book Trips” to access the main portal.
The homepage of Amex Travel Portal looks like an average booking interface, with features for searching for flights, hotels, vacation packages, rental cars, and cruises.
In the main search engine, you’ll find up-to-date data on cancellation policies and other important points about pandemic travel. There is also an interactive map showing Covid-19 vaccination and testing needs around the world.
Hovering over the “Book” button at the top of the page will open a separate menu with shortcuts to portal benefits such as the International Airline Program (IAP), Amex Fine Hotels Resorts, and The Hotel Collection.
Hovering over the “Explore” button in the main menu will take you to many of the same shortcuts, as well as Travel Insider features, special offers through Fine Hotels Resorts, and data on high-end destinations and hotel packages.
Whether you book flights, hotels, or other travel through the portal, you’ll have the option to “Use Emissions Only” or “Use Card Issues. “So, it’s up to you whether you want to redeem all of your issues or just a few. In all cases, your credit card will be charged the full amount and you will see a credit for the price of the issues used displayed separately in your account within 48 hours. Please note that you will need to use an Amex credit. card enrolled in the Membership Rewards program and redeem at least 5,000 MR issues to activate the Pay with Points feature.
If you wish to cancel a reservation made with MR points, please call 1-800-297-3276 to pick them up. You’ll earn a credit for any reservation made with your American Express Membership Rewards card through the portal.
Although you’re more likely to get the redemption price by moving your MR emissions to an Amex partner airline and leveraging the merit of airline alliances (Oneworld, SkyTeam, Star Alliance) to book flights electronically, there are still some considerations to keep in mind. . These are electronic bookings through the portal.
Please note that with maximum bookings on the Amex travel portal, your MR emissions will only be worth 1 cent each for flights. So, if you booked a flight for $100, you’ll need to redeem 10,000 issues to cover the cost.
For starters, get more flexibility when it comes to travel dates and brands, which is convenient when the availability of praise is limited to certain dates through some airlines. Flights booked with MR issues through the portal are treated as paid bookings, so you are required to earn elite miles or prestige credits. You’ll also be able to immediately see what type of seat you’re booking, as it’s indexed on the right-hand side of each search result.
It’s a good idea to shop around before opting for a redemption method, so compare how much each flight costs through the Amex Travel portal and the airline’s website. Taxes and payments may also be added. Unless you have the Platinum Card or Business Platinum Card, please note that an airfare payment of $6. 99 for domestic flights and $10. 99 for foreign flights applies when you make an e-booking through the Amex Travel portal.
Please note that budget airlines such as Allegiant Air, Frontier Airlines, and Spirit Airlines are not part of the Amex Travel portal; you can locate flights with other major U. S. airlines. U. S. airlines such as Delta and United, among other components of foreign airlines.
During the booking process, you will have the option to use MR issues to upgrade from an economy seat to a refundable or non-refundable seat in premium class, even if this does not provide the redemption value. However, if you have a lot of MR issues and fancy a more complicated flying experience, this is a smart choice. Again, it all comes down to your personal preference and your level of convenience.
Deals on foreign flights can also be discovered through e-bookings through the International Airline Program (IAP), which offers discounts on non-budget tickets when booking e-flights with any of the 26 participating airlines through the Amex Travel portal with a Platinum or Business Platinum card. Card. . Flights must begin in the U. S. or select cities in Canada to qualify for this benefit, and they will be charged a service fee of $39 per ticket.
Filter search effects based on the number of stopovers, departure and landing times, airline, or flight number, or sort them by lowest price, flight duration, departure time, or Amex notice (meaning Delta flights will appear first, even if they’re not necessarily your cheapest option).
Let’s take the following example, a search for a nonstop round-trip flight from Washington, D. C. to Paris from 5 to 12 November 2021, booked with the Amex Platinum card. The effects included a Delta flight at $674 or $67. 42 five MR points.
Alternatively, if you need to transfer your Amex MR emissions directly to Delta (as you are one of the American Express partners and can redeem them at a 1:1 ratio) and redeem them through Delta’s website, you will be charged for a round-trip flight. you’ll earn 58,000 Delta SkyMiles plus an additional $96 in taxes and fees.
In this case, for 9,425 fewer miles, you’ll get a bigger redemption by moving MR issues to Delta instead of through the Amex travel portal. But this isn’t necessarily the case for each and every flight, so check first to see if using the portal is best suited for your travel needs.
To complete your flight booking through the portal, your desired route(s), review the details, decide on your upgrade option, and the number of MR issues you need to use for your purchase.
As with flights, it’s vital to make sure you get the best deal to redeem your MR points. Consider transferring them to one of Amex’s 3 partner hotels: Hilton Honors at a 1:2 ratio, Marriott Bonvoy at a 1:2 ratio. 1, or Choice Privileges (Choice Hotels) in a 1:1 ratio, lately there is a special promotion. On October 31, 2021, this will increase Hilton and Marriott transfers by 30%.
Please note that with the maximum number of e-bookings on the Amex portal, your MR issuances will only be worth 0. 7 cents each for hotel stays. So, if you booked a $100 hotel, you’ll need to redeem about 14,300 issues to cover the cost. However, if you book a stay through the Fine Hotels program
Unlike the redemption of MR emissions for flights, hotels booked through the portal are considered third-party reservations. You won’t be able to get hotel emissions or enjoy the prestige benefits you would have if you booked directly through the hotel.
Start your search by entering your dates and destination. Then, clear the effects by hotel or brand, star rating, nightly rate, neighborhood, amenities, or accessibility, and sort by name, price, star rating, or Amex recommendation.
For the example below, we searched for a seven-night stay booked from November 5 to November 12, 2021 with the Amex Platinum card. The Renaissance Paris Arc De Triomphe hotel, a pro-consistent Marriott Bonvoy hotel, is one of the most productive options, with rates starting at $306 or 43,723 MR issues consistent with the night.
If you make the same electronic reservation through Marriott’s website, you’ll need 340,000 copies of Marriott Bonvoy for seven nights (which equates to 48,571 copies per night), with cash rates per night starting at $367 or $433. In this case, it would be wiser to book electronically. through the portal. You can also earn 5x more emissions for the rest by paying with the Amex Platinum Card or Business Platinum Card.
Get in the habit of comparing the number of emissions required through the portal with the number of emissions needed to redeem on each hotel’s website, as costs can be affected depending on location and time of year, among other factors. To complete your reservation through the Amex Travel portal, your room type, review the main themes and decide the number of themes you want to use.
Premium cardholders also have access to the Fine Hotels program
In addition, holders of the Amex Gold Card, Business Gold Card, Platinum Card, Business Platinum Card, and in some cases, the Centurion Card, can make electronic reservations through The Hotel Collection. Please note that members of the Amex Gold card earn double the emissions, while the Platinum card members earn 5 times more points on such e-bookings, but everyone gets the following benefits per stay of two nights or more:
The Amex Travel portal also allows you to search for and book vacation packages that, depending on the type of sales being made at the time, can save you a lot or end up costing about the same as booking your flight and hotel. A package, please note that the same airfare fees apply as when you make an e-booking (not for Platinum and Business Platinum cardholders, who are exempt from this package). Cards that earn MR emissions will get twice as many emissions on packages, while those with Amex Platinum cards and Business Platinum cards will get 5 times more emissions.
While charging a bunch of MR emissions for a cruise or car rental probably isn’t the best trade-in (your emissions will only be worth 0. 7 cents each), it can still be a smart choice depending on your needs.
Click on the “Cruises” tab on the Amex Travel Portal homepage to search by cruise line, destination, sailing dates and times. Below, for example, are some of the effects of Mediterranean cruises in November 2021.
Prices shown reflect the consistent conson charge, based on double occupancy cabins. Depending on the card you use and the cruise features available, you may be able to redeem Amex MR emissions for part or all of your sailing.
Those who book with Membership Rewards credit cards can earn double points per dollar spent on cruises booked electronically through the portal, while those with Platinum or Business Platinum cards can earn between $100 and $300 in stateroom credits and other onboard benefits through the Cruise Privileges program.
When it comes to car rentals, the search procedure is similar: simply enter your destination, whether you need to return the car at the same location or another, your dates, and the time you need to start and end your rental. . .
Once the effects are displayed, you can delete by car type (standard, compact, premium, etc. ), the ability to pay now or later, value per day, pickup location, car rental company and Features like unlimited mileage, automatic function. Compared to manual transmission, hybrid/electric cars or 4WD. Sort effects based on distance or total value.
After choosing your car, you’ll be asked if you need to pay now, which means you can use your MR issues to book some or all of your prepaid rental, or pay later, which means you’ll have to pay in the car. Rental meter: This can earn you twice as much emissions per dollar, so it’s an undeniable way to charge additional MR emissions.
Next, enter the driver’s information, form of payment (how many emissions or cash), and check the car rental policies. As always, it doesn’t hurt to compare prices, so check the numbers with car rental companies before you book to make sure you’re getting what you pay for.
Booking through the Amex Travel portal is a simple way to redeem your MR emissions, but you regularly get a lot more out of Amex emissions if you transfer them to a partner airline or hotel’s loyalty program. Please note that your issues cost 1 cent per point for flights and 0. 7 cents each for other trips (except when booking a Fine Hotels Resort for each).
