East Delhi Park Fire: 16s Eviscerated

Sixteen cars were destroyed by a fire that broke out Wednesday in a municipal government car park in east Delhi’s Madhu Vihar district, officials said. No one was injured in the crash. More than 100 cars were parked at the facility, but the quick intervention of police and firefighters managed to keep the rest of the vehicles in place, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Apoorva Gupta said.

The incident was reported at 1:17 a. m. Nine firefighters were mobilized and put out the blaze within four hours, an official with the Delhi Fire Department (DFS) said.

A case has been registered in connection with the incident and investigations are ongoing, police said. The vehicles belonged to locals who used to park their cars in the parking lot to rent out, he said.

Previously, it was said that 17 cars were destroyed, but Madhu Vihar SHO Rajesh Sinha later proved that 16 cars were destroyed in the fire.

“We still control some cars to save the rest. There were no injuries in the incident,” DFS officer Yashwant Meena said.

According to a police official, it is suspected that the incident may simply be due to fires in the trees in the area. ” The parking lot is close to the Delhi Jal Board Office. A total of 16 four-wheeled cars parked in the parking lot were broken in the incident. The remaining cars may just be broken,” DCP Gupta said.

He added that there have been no human losses. At this time the cause of the fire has been determined.

“The criminal team called the scene for an inspection. An FIR was registered under sections 285 and 336 of the CPI and an investigation was opened,” the DCP said.

“Our groups reacted temporarily after the emergency call. Our priority is to save lives,” the officer said.

Firefighters also arrived at the scene and intervened temporarily, he said. “While one bidder doused water on cars that didn’t catch fire, the other put out the flames. “In another incident, five department stores were destroyed in a fire that broke out at the Chandni Chowk domain north of Delhi on Wednesday, officials said.

According to a DFS official, a call about the fire near Fatehpuri Masjid came at 3:12 a. m. and 8 firefighters were dispatched.

The chimney went out around 5 a. m. , he said.

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor accused the Delhi Municipal Corporation (DCC) of negligence in the Madhu Vihar parking lot fire in a statement. The incident occurred because the facility lacked basic firefighting equipment.

Kapoor said the MCD will compensate the owners of the cars destroyed by the fire.

He also said that immediate orders will be given to all parking contractors to install critical fire extinguishing devices to avoid any protective hazards amid the severe heat wave hitting the city.

The MCD issued a statement on the incident after conducting an inspection of the site. “The fire broke out at the end of the parking lot, near a wide, deep drain. During the inspection, at first glance it gave the impression that a passerby on the road had possibly thrown a lit cigarette butt/”bidi” into the dry drain, causing a fire in the dry leaves and foliage of the drain. Due to the sweltering heat, the fire reached the edge of the parking lot,” he said.

According to the MCD, as a result, a fire swept through the rear of some cars and then spread, injuring vehicles nearby.

“The on-site parking staff immediately informed the Delhi Fire Department after seeing the chimney. In addition, wasting no time for firefighters to arrive at the scene, parking lot staff immediately attempted to extinguish the chimney using the chimney extinguisher that was in the parking lot, as well as stored water. The chimney was brought under control as soon as the firefighters arrived,” they say.
