Old Fox Farm, in Chester Township, New Jersey, is much more than its name suggests.
There is the ancient lineage. The 25 acres of equestrian assets and farmland once belonged to a larger estate owned by Time, Life, Fortune and Sports Illustrated founder Henry R. Luce.
Modern construction. The original cottage, built in 1941, was completely renovated and extended in 2005 by Chester architect William Byrne. The resulting apartment is a modern yet classic Federal-style farmhouse with a wrap-around porch, sloping roof, and dormers.
The unexpected. Classic car creditors will take note. The indifferent garage for 4 cars has a hydraulic system to store one more vehicle. And room for two more in another garage.
Equestrian facilities. Most of the farm is loyal to the horses. The asset has two barns for a total of 20 stalls, a covered riding arena with a gazebo, a riding arena, 14 grass paddocks, five indoor laundry rooms, 3 tool rooms and a hay barn. Also on site is an old Hitchings greenhouse.
A formal dining room is next to the main living room.
The interiors. Inside the 4,500-square-foot clapboard are extensive trim and millwork, wide-plank pine floors, and 3 Rumford fireplaces (the tall corridor-like design reflects more warmth). The front hallway opens to the living room with a bay window and one of the fireplaces and formal dining room.
The kitchen features quartz countertops, a rustic-style sink, and a center island with breakfast bar. Next to it is a wood-beamed breakfast room with benches and an office/homework with a built-in table and disc storage.
French doors to the high-ceilinged great room open onto a terrace and swim spa. There is a loft above the room.
Kitchen upgrades include the addition of quartz countertops, a farmhouse-style sink, and a center island.
The terrace on the first floor has been designed with a wardrobe and a full bathroom and can simply be used as a master suite.
Other living spaces feature a terrace and cloakroom with integrated garage compartments, a laundry room and a vanity.
The upstairs master suite has a fireplace. There are a total of 4 bedrooms at the moment and on the third floor.
In true rustic style, the space features a wrap-around porch.
The location. Chester’s and restaurants are a two-minute drive from the farm, says directory agent Robert Sameth Jr. of Turpin Realtors. There are public and personal schools nearby.
“It’s an ideal asset for a client who needs to live on the farm: horses, chickens, goats, gardens and open grounds,” he says.
A greenhouse that cultivates a garden all year round.
The opportunity. Entrepreneurs can find their position here. ” The asset can be used as an equestrian education business,” says Sameth. With the indoor track, coaches can work in any weather conditions.
Sameth also sees appeal for families looking for an agricultural lifestyle or who can’t ride horses.
Assets at 450 Old Chester Gladstone Road are indexed at $3. 45 million.
