The Mavericks are peaking at the right time, and while the Warriors want their own winning streak, our NBA picks believe Dallas is in another elegance right now.
NBA
Luka Doncic and the hot Dallas Mavericks are full steam ahead heading into the playoffs, leading a seven-game winning streak when they take on the Golden State Warriors tonight.
The Mavericks climbed to fifth after Sunday’s 125-107 win over the Houston Rockets, with Luka Doncic notching a 47-point masterpiece as a timely reminder that no one needs to face him in a seven-game series.
The most sensible priority for the Warriors is to hold on to the final play-in spot. Four straight wins, coupled with a 117-113 win over the San Antonio Spurs over the weekend, have given them some wiggle room, and that’s enough to make Golden State a slight favorite here in the NBA’s most recent odds.

My bet: Mavericks Moneyline (-105 at bet365)
If Dallas’ recent form carries over into the playoffs, don’t be surprised if it wakes up in May and puts the Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals. Luka Doncic is very good.
The visitors laughed off the Rockets’ 11-game winning streak on Sunday, when Doncic took all the shots he was looking for in the direction of 22 points in the first quarter. Dallas has never looked back, and a sense is developing that this is a team that peaks at the best time.
I take advantage of the hype and the Mavs to walk around the Chase Center and extend their winning streak.
Luka and Kyrie Irving’s effective scores have been huge for Dallas, but it’s not just a normal regimen of shootings. The Mavs have also stepped up their defense, holding the warring sides under 110 points in their last seven outings.
They’re 23-14 on the road this season, and I expect the visitors to create some dilemmas in the main lineup for Steve Kerr here. If Golden State relies on its defensive options, the offense is a concern, and vice versa.
Also, the Warriors may not be in top form tonight. Jonathan Kuminga has missed the last 3 games and is questionable here, while Klay Thompson is likely limited by knee tendinitis.
There’s still a chance of a supernova performance from Steph Curry, but I like that Doncic and the Mavs have the final say.
The only chance for Golden State to make some noise in the playoffs is for Curry to be near his best. March was a tough month for Steph (42% shooting from the field), but she finished it off strongly with 33 opposing points. the Spurs.
He hit seven of his 15 3-pointers to outlast Wemby
Although they have only managed 27 points in two of their last seven games, I count on Steph to defend offensively, as Dallas is known for its perimeter defense.
The Mavs have been a stingier defensive team with Daniel Gafford in the starting lineup, and he does indeed have an impact on the glass.
Tonight I’ll get the best out of their rebounding team, with Gafford averaging seven rebounds per game in March. He also does it consistently, grabbing at least seven rebounds in nine of his last thirteen games.
