Texas AG Sues Site Parent Companies for Violating Age Verification Act

The Texas attorney general has filed lawsuits against two parent companies of sites in an effort to prevent minors from seeing sexually specific clothing online.

A press release from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced that he had sued “Multi Media, LLC and Hammy Media, major pornography corporations that operate sites such as ‘Chaturbate’ and ‘xHamster,’ for violating HB 1181, a Texas law that requires moderate age verification measures for minors for exposure to destructive obscene material.

“Instead of complying with Texas law requiring suppliers of obscene clothing to implement age-verification systems, corporations offer pornographic content to minors who access their internet sites and do not conduct any meaningful checks,” he continued.

Paxton’s lawsuit seeks a trial to find that the companies violate state law, as well as to prevent them from posting and distributing sexually specific apparel “without implementing moderate age verification methods. “

The lawsuits also seek civil consequences of $10,000 for the day the corporations break the law.

“PornHub has now deactivated its online page in Texas,” Paxton said of his efforts to fight online site operators. “Sites like PornHub are fleeing because Texas has a law that aims to prevent them from showing destructive, obscene curtains to children. . In Texas, corporations are not allowed to show pornography to children. If they don’t need to comply, they deserve to leave Texas.

Movieguide® has reported in the past on Texas age verification laws:

Kansas is on the verge of passing a law that would require age verification for websites.

“The Republican-controlled Kansas Legislature approved the proposal Tuesday and sent it to Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly,” ABC News wrote. “The House passed it by a vote of 92 to 31 and the Senate passed it unanimously last month. “

The outlet also reported that at least eight other states have implemented age verification since 2022: Texas, Arkansas, Indiana, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Utah, and Virginia.
