The nursing home has been empty for more than two years and will be demolished this spring.

The council has now reserved the site to locate the new Oakengates Preschool, which in the past was founded in the city’s theatre building.

However, due to the commission to renovate and renovate the theatre, the nursery with capacity for 108 children will need a new one until Easter. Plans for the new theater do not include childcare.

“As a result, a large number of young people would be left without child care if the measure failed,” reads a plan submitted through the city council.

“Currently empty, the relocation of the nursery to Cartlidge House will breathe new life into the area that has been the target of vandalism and arson lately.

“It is preferable to re-use an abandoned site than to use a nearby abandoned site. The creation of the nursery school is essential to ensure that the educational offer is available to the young people of the territory.

“The proposals will provide amenities and environments for learning and expansion with the prospect of a greater outdoor engagement point.

“The proposed new site is expected to offer greater gaming features and feel much more suburban in its context than the existing site.

“The deadlines within which this task will be delivered mean that the use of detachable elements is imperative. “

Plans call for the main structure of the nursery to be housed in a renovated demountable building that will span the entire duration of the former Cartlidge House.

It is proposed to relocate the existing play apparatus and some other demountable classroom from the existing site.

The council says the new single-story building proposals will be “much less dominant” than the old nursing home which had two or three floors.

It is proposed to expand the existing car park on site to offer an area with capacity for 21 cars.

The council is also proposing to build a new widened road linking the site’s park with the existing public park at Hartshill.

At full capacity, the existing theatre park is a five-minute walk from the venue.

The building application documents state that the new nursery is “almost identical” to that of the previous construction.

They claim that the “slightly smaller” spaces are the snack prep kitchen, laundry room, and flow space.

The City Council adds that the plan calls for construction on the playground with a larger grass area than has existed lately.

The council added: “A number of choice sites have been thought of such as in Oakengates, adding Wombridge Primary School, but all have been deemed incorrect due to lack of space, lack of outdoor development, accessibility or parking.

“The bowling alley at Hartshill Park stood out as a transparent and unused site and its outlook in terms of location and outdoor amenity area; however, due to the exaggerated objections of the local population, we explored some other option at the old site of Cartlidge. House. .

“The overall design has been discussed, evolved and agreed with the nursery and school sector so that it meets all their requirements, is functional and provides an open and inclusive learning space. “
