It’s been a long time since there’s been a genuine explanation of why to talk about Destiny 2’s story since, um, nothing really happens until The Final Shape in this extended season. However, something cool happened with the release of Guardian Games, the arrival of the new Skimmer hoverboard. And most importantly, who gave it to us.
If you read the History tab on the Allstar Vector, you’ll see that it wasn’t a little toy that was gifted to us, for example, Nimbus, our friend Neomuna, who uses a hoverboard in the same way. The history page says, instead, that it was given to us through the “Concordat,” which might sound very remote. Here’s what you want to know about the Concordat and why it may be vital in the future:
Concordat once a faction of the Guardians was led by a guy named Lysander. After the Battle of Twilight Gap, Lysander and the Concordat attempted a coup d’état over the city, but were stopped by the New Monarchy at Bannerfall. Here’s the description of the Destiny 1-era Grimoire:
In fact, this is not the “final blow”, as Lysander and the Concordat were not killed, but simply banished. Some of the former fans have blended in with other factions such as Future War Cult.
However, we do have wisdom about Lysander’s Cry Sparrow (this is the Destiny 1 content long ago where you discovered the sparrow through a ghost hidden in Bannerfall) where the data says it’s for its return:
In Season of Arrivals lore, Eris says Zavala fears “the next Lysander, the next Toland, the next Rezyl Azzir.” But it appears the next Lysander might be the…old Lysander. In real life, Lysander was a Spartan military leader who wanted to overthrow the Athenian empire and replace it with Spartan hegemony, which could offer some insight into Lysander wanting a more brutal, battle-focused form of government than the Vanguard offers.
But the question remains: why would Lysander and the Concordat send Skimmers to the Guardian Games as a “gift”?My most productive guess is that he would possibly be looking to curry favor with the Guardians who enjoy his new hoverboards, buying them along with a laugh with new toys once he returns to make the last city even more beautiful. Possibly it would also be vital for the Skimmer tale card to have none other than Spider examining those Skimmers, a character who might be quite willing to attempt to overthrow the Vanguard and take control of The Last City. So, maybe there’s something important that conveys here the scenes that will come into play in the future. After all, we have virtually no idea where Fate will pass after the end of the Age of Light and Darkness. . .
