Some drivers of several popular brands of cars, electric cars and gasoline say their rates have risen after insurance companies obtained information about their driving habits.

According to the New York Post, Kenn Dahl claims that his car insurance prices skyrocketed 21% in 2022 after GM’s OnStar Smart Driver automatic formula installed in his Chevrolet Bolt collected data on the main points of his driving habits. Dahl said his insurance agent told him the accumulation of value was based on data collected through LexisNexis, which compiled a report that tracks each time he and his wife drove their Chevrolet Bolt over a six-month period.
