British production company Future Artists Entertainment (FAE) is partnering with the Versa Studios studio network on a production hub at Versa Leeds Studios.
The Leeds site, which opened in 2020, will now host further post-production and visual effects services, as well as outreach and education programmes, thanks to the partnership with FAE.
FAE will work with Versa on studio promotion; and will seek to host production corporations and parallel projects to FAE’s own productions.
Versa Studios Leeds has 4 operational sound stages ranging from 10,000 feet to 27,000 feet.
FAE has produced 14 films since its inception in 2019 through Matt Williams and Martin Owen. Titles include Netflix’s Bank Of Dave, Sky Original’s Pokerface starring Russell Crowe, Last Train To Christmas starring Michael Sheen and the Welsh true story Save The Cinema starring Samantha Morton. . Full diversity generated more than $150 million in production expenses; with the company that recently finished the survival mystery Lionsgate Above The Below starring Idris Elba.
The company has also shot three films in Leeds, adding Amazon Studios’ forthcoming name, Upgraded. The partnership with Versa is aimed at Leeds’ prospect as a hub for foreign production.
Williams said the amenities at Versa Leeds are “fantastic” with “a varied inventory. “
“Attracting domestic and overseas productions means we can also focus on developing the next generation of skills to ensure greater access to the industry and a strong, skilled team base with employment opportunities in the wider arts industries sector in Leeds and beyond,” said Charlie. Versa has studio spaces in London, Manchester and Leeds, with recent titles shooting at the studios including Netflix crime thriller Bodies and Marvel Studios series Secret Invasion.
Versa’s sister company, Department, also recently opened a painting centre for the arts industries at Leeds Dock, with facilities for the AWF and production companies.
It is supported by the Sean Connery Foundation, which will award a £15,000 prize to the short film.
