Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) said Tuesday that his wife was admitted to the hospital following a car wreck in Alabama on Monday.
Manchin said the twist of fate occurred after Gayle Manchin, co-chair of the Appalachian Regional Commission, and her colleague Guy Land left the Birmingham airport to attend a business event.
The senator said in statements to the press that his wife, 76, is in good condition and will remain in the UAB Hospital “for a few days as a precautionary measure”.

“We would like to thank the first responders who responded to the call and were the first to arrive at the scene to provide assistance and support,” Manchin said.
