BEIJING, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday called for efforts to decrease the recurrence of types of protective injuries and protect citizens’ lives and property, as well as social stability.
Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, issued the instruction following a fire at a street store in Xinyu City, east China’s Jiangxi Province.
The fire broke out at around 3:30 p. m. in a street shop in Xinyu’s Yushui district. So far, another 39 people have died, nine have been injured and some more are still trapped at the scene.
Xi for his all-out efforts to rescue and treat the injured, care for the bereaved and deal with the aftermath of the accident.
He also demanded that an investigation be carried out into the reasons for the fire and that those responsible for the fire be found guilty in accordance with the law.
Xi is under pressure that localities and government departments deserve to be informed about the accident, ensure that their office protection responsibilities are fulfilled, read conscientiously about the possible dangers, and spare no effort to make sure that the corresponding work is done in a healthy manner.
In his instruction, Premier Li Qiang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, urged rescue personnel to work against the clock to find people who remain trapped, and do their best to treat the injured and reduce casualties.
Li urged efforts to attend properly to follow-up matters, promptly find the cause of the fire, and hold those responsible for the matter accountable.
Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, headed a working group in Xinyu to advise on the relevant work.
