Former President Donald Trump lashed out at White House President Joe Biden in a scathing message earlier this year.
Trump reiterated his unproven claim that the 2020 presidential election was stolen by Democrats in a Dec. 30 post shared on his social media platform Truth Social.
Biden, the undisputed front-runner for the Republican nomination, is also “crooked,” a nickname he gave to former Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election.
Trump’s comments come as his chances of beating Biden in a hypothetical rematch have increased since last year, as inflation and lingering border issues continue to negatively impact the president’s approval rating.
“As the New Year fast approaches, I would like to wish an early New Year’s salutation to crooked Joe Biden and his group of radical left misfits and thugs on their never-ending attempt to destroy our nation through lawfare, invasion and rigging elections,” Trump said in the post.
“They are now fighting to register as many of those millions of people imaginable who are being allowed to enter this bitter country illegally (sic), so that they will be fit to vote in the 2024 presidential election. “
Since being shared, the post has attracted approximately 6,540 retruths (similar to retweets) and 19,700 likes.
Newsweek reached out to the White House and Trump’s media team for comment via email.
Biden finished 2023 with a 39% approval rating, down from 37% in October and November, but still the worst of any modern president, according to Gallup data. Trump had a 45% approval rating in 2019.
The former president also scored some victories this year, adding his reinstatement to X, formerly Twitter, after owner Elon Musk revoked an earlier resolution to ban him from the site after the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
However, Trump has had a tumultuous year, facing several lawsuits and criminal charges.
In March, he was indicted on 34 felony counts related to an alleged hush-money payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels in the run-up to the 2016 election.
The former president also faces 3 other indictments, two federal and one from Fulton County, Georgia. Trump was indicted in June for alleged mishandling of classified documents and a few others in August for seeking to overturn the 2020 election. He has denied any wrongdoing and has pleaded guilty. I’m not to blame for all the charges.
Despite Trump’s legal issues, he continues to dominate the race to secure the Republican nomination and remains far ahead of his closest rivals.
