Tesla Recalls Nearly 200,000 Vehicles Because Rearview Camera May Not Work When Car Is in Reverse

Tesla is recalling about 200,000 cars in the US because the rearview camera does not work when the car is in reverse.

The recall covers certain Models Y, S and X from the 2023 model year. All are equipped with “Full Self-Driving” computer 4.0 and run software version 2023.44.30 through 2023.44.30.6 or 2023.44.100.

The company says in documents released through the U. S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. According to the U. S. Department of Homeland Security, software instability can prevent the camera symbol from displaying symbols when Teslas are in reverse. The security company says this can increase the risk of an accident.

Tesla says in documents that it is not aware of any crashes or injuries. Documents say the problem has been fixed with an online software update.

Owners will be notified by letter starting March 22.

Tesla said in documents that it is not aware of any accidents, injuries or deaths similar to this issue.

Tesla began receiving court cases about the issue in late December and considering a recall on Jan. 12, the documents show. As of Jan. 22, the company had 81 warranty claims potentially paid due to the factor.

Teslas can’t drive themselves despite the “Full Self-Driving” system, and human drivers want to be able to intervene at any time.
