(UPM, Helsinki, January 2, 2024 at 14:30 EET) – UPM has completed the sale of Steyrermühl and all related assets to the HEINZEL GROUP, the final transaction announced in June 2022.

UPM Steyrermühl was founded in 1868 and has been producing newsprint until the end of the second quarter of 2023. The production capacity in recent years is 320,000 tons per year. The site also includes a sawmill with an annual timber capacity of 370,000 cubic meters.

“Throughout the process, we worked intensively with HEINZEL to achieve a smooth transition. The closure of newspaper production in Steyrermühl has put an end to a highly successful bankruptcy in the history of UPM Communication Papers’ paper production in Austria and the Steyrermühl plant now also has a new owner after the sale is completed. I would like to thank our colleagues at Steyrermühl for their committed and professional work for more than a century and a half. I am convinced that the upcoming transformation of the plant will offer intelligent customers for Steyrermühl painters and the region as such,” says Massimo Reynaudo, President and CEO of UPM.

UPM will be committed to the newsprint industry as one of the leading manufacturers in the sector, continuing newsprint production at its plants in Schongau, Ettringen, Hürth and Jämsänkoski. UPM will also participate in the Austrian newsprint market, serving consumers in its newsprint mills.
