Doha, Qatar: Qatar Museums invites the public to delve into the history of the Early Islamic period with exclusive visits to the Ain Mohammed archaeological site.
As part of the second season of the “Landscapes of Faith” project, these opportunities aim to offer an immersive experience at the ongoing excavations at Ain Mohammed and Mesaika.
Qatar has an unusually high number of sites of the Early Islamic period, mostly scattered through the deserts of the north, but also found in central and southern Qatar, 30 of which have been identified by archaeologists. These two public open days offer an opportunity to visit one of these sites, Ain Mohammed.
Dr. Robert Carter, director of the Qatar Museums Project, will advise visitors through the excavations of Ain Mohammed, showcasing the newly discovered structures and artifacts. This exclusive opportunity promises an in-depth account of the ancient importance and ongoing discoveries at the site.
“Landscapes of Faith” tackles questions about Qatar’s archaeological heritage, with the aim of discovering the reasons for the concentration of these sites and deciphering the way of life of its ancient inhabitants. This task spearheads an exploration of the life, economic activities, connectivity to the global and the resilience of other people in the midst of the harsh desert of Qatar.
