A new survey conducted through Public Health Wales has found that men in Wales are less likely than women to think that washing their hands is necessary. ﻤ ﻤ
In Wales, 1 in five men admit to not washing their hands after using the toilet. ﻤ ﻤ
Men were also more likely than women to report washing their hands for less than 20 seconds. ﻤ ﻤ
In a representative survey of more than 1,000 adults in Wales, awareness of the importance of holding hands when returning from public office is low: only 41% of men and 50% of women agreed it was necessary. ﻤ ﻤ
The YouGov survey commissioned by Public Health Wales also found that people were not aware of the importance of shaking hands after meeting others outside their home, with only 38% of men and 43% of women believing it necessary. ﻤ 1 ﻤ
Only a proportion of Welsh adults said they wash their hands or occasionally wash after sneezing or blowing their nose. 1 ﻤ
Public fitness experts emphasize the importance of hand hygiene to stay fit this winter. 1 ﻤ

Proper handwashing is one of the most effective measures we can all take to combat the spread of infections, such as influenza, norovirus, and Covid-19. A typical person’s hands contain millions of microbes, most of which are harmless, though some may be pathogenic bacteria. . ﻤ ﻤ
Other measures to prevent the spread of infections this winter include staying home if you’re not feeling well and making sure you and your family are up to date on your winter vaccinations. ﻤ ﻤ
