A Canadian millionaire has pledged to build tiny homes to end homelessness in the town of Fredericton, New Brunswick.
According to Good News Network, Marcel LeBrun ran a successful social media tracking company and sold it for 8 figures. To make smart use of this money, he turned to the community of 12 Neighbors.
It houses 99 tiny homes and is specifically designed to give the city’s 1,600 homeless people a second chance.
LeBrun told CBC News that the homes are manufactured and built “every 4 days. “
It is insisted that housing other people is the easiest part. He said, “How can we achieve and maintain housing stability?For some, it’s simple. For others, it represents a big change in their lifestyle.
He admitted that there were some problems with this. Some squatters are confused.
LeBrun noted, “[The resident] moves into a house, and then other people come in and say, ‘Hey, you owe me this, you owe me that,’ and they take it into their own hands and they have to learn, what does that mean?It means having an area where you’re the manager of that area, and you control it. . . And you decide who you invite in and out?So it’s a challenge.
In some cases, they’ve had to evict dangerous citizens, but they’ve added a security door to the network to help homeless citizens improve their safety.
According to a CBC News video, the existing neighborhood has a network painting center that houses a café for citizens to paint. There is a “teaching center” and a screen printing business designed for the citizens themselves.
LeBrun has pumped $4 million into the project. He shared his hopes for the future, saying, “Actually, what we’re doing here is not just about building a small community, but building small communities in our city. “
