About 3. 5 million more U. S. families faced a lack of food insecurity for at least part of 2022 compared to 2021. This is the largest increase since the 2008 currency crisis.

That’s according to a new report from the U. S. Department of Agriculture. UU. La lack of confidence in food occurs when “the ability to obtain good enough food is limited by a lack of cash and other resources,” according to the report.

About 17 million families, or 12. 8% of U. S. families, were food insecure in 2022. In addition, another 44. 2 million people belonged to food-insecure families in 2022, up from 33. 8 million in 2021.
