An MP campaigning for the rebuilding of The Crooked House today toured the old pub with the leader of the House of Commons.
Dudley North MP Marco Longhi invited Penny Mordaunt to stop at the Himley site and explained that one of her long-term priorities is to seek greater coverage for traditional pubs.
Activists need to see the pub rebuilt after it burned down on August 5 and was completely demolished without permission two days later.
More than 35,000 people have joined the Facebook page “Save the Crooked House (Let’s Rebuild It)” and members share their memories of the pub.
Longhi said, “I’m so grateful that Penny has taken some time off despite her busy schedule.
“As parliamentarians, we have giant communities to support, but she knows how much that means, just for the local population, but also nationally and internationally. “
MP Penny Mordaunt had already responded to a message from Mr Longhi in the House of Commons to offer her support.
Longhi added: “By seeing the Crooked House rebuilt brick by brick, we do justice and give greater coverage to heritage pubs.
“It’s one of my priorities for the future. “
The historic pub was sold through the owner’s Marston’s to a personal customer just days before the fire.
South Staffordshire Council’s inquiries are ongoing and a further six people have been arrested in connection with the fire, which is being treated as arson.
Earlier this week, the mayor-elect of the West Midlands said he hoped the Crooked House would be rebuilt and that those responsible for its demolition would have to foot the bill.
Andy Street said those guilty of demolishing the famous pub had “chosen the authority” to ignore planning rules.
