Donald Trump’s collection of non-fungible tokens (NFT) sold out in a matter of hours, and “digital business cards” are now worth more than $500,000.
The former president was widely mocked for saying he would make a “major announcement” on Thursday, which later turned out to be an NFT collection depicting him in bureaucracy as a superhero, a cowboy and an astronaut, which can be purchased for $99.
Despite this, the entire collection of 45,000 NFTs under Trump was coined in about 12 hours, according to OpenSea data, and nearly 14,000 other people bought one or more of the tokens online.
As of Friday morning, Trump’s total NFT collection lately has around 460 Ethereum ($570,000).
Before the NFT’s launch, some predicted that Trump’s “main announcement” could simply be that he will nominate his next running mate, or that he will make a surprise move to run for the White House in 2024 as an independent.
Instead, Trump revealed that he had switched to the NFT game and suggested his supporters buy his virtual Trump cards, which he described as “very much like a baseball card, but much more exciting. “
“It would be a gift from Navidad. Se they will go, I think, very quickly,” Trump wrote in Truth Social.
The money from the NFT sale will be used for Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, according to Donald Trump’s Digital Trading Card website.
“These virtual business cards are political and have to do with a political campaign,” he said.
“NFT INT LLC is owned, controlled or controlled by Donald J. Trump, The Trump Organization, CIC Digital LLC or any of their respective administrators or affiliates. “
Steve Bannon, Trump’s former White House strategist, one of those who expressed frustration over the former president’s obvious “major announcement” promoting NFTs.
“I can’t do this anymore,” Bannon said on his WarRoom podcast, adding that those interested in the task “should be fired today. “
In a tweet, President Joe Biden also mocked his 2024 rival.
“I’ve had MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENTS for the last two weeks,” Biden said.
“Inflation is going down, I just signed the Respect Marriage Act, we brought Brittney Griner home, fuel is lower than a year ago, 10,000 new good-paying jobs in Arizona. “
