Nintendo’s popular mushroom-filled global video game hits the big screen in the movie Super Mario Bros. from Universal Pictures, starring Chris Pratt as Mario.
The film’s first trailer debuted Thursday, answering a question Goomba’s character enthusiasts have been asking since Pratt announced as the lead role: What will Mario’s voice sound like?
It turns out that Array sounds. . . just like the actor, as well as, according to some fans, with a Brooklyn-style accent.

Only two of Mario’s lines were included in the trailer, starting with “What is this place?”followed by “Mushroom Kingdom, here we are,” but that was enough to confuse online viewers.

“Who would have any idea that Chris Pratt’s wonderful secret voice in the Mario movie would be his voice?” one Twitter user wrote.

The MCU actor in the past told Variety that the character’s voice would be “unlike anything you’ve heard before in Mario’s world. “
Some social media users said the voice was “shocking,” while others found it comical.
“Just showed the kids the Mario trailer,” film critic Robbie Cullin wrote on Twitter. “The way they turned around and looked at me when I heard Chris Pratt’s voice will make me laugh for months, if not years. “

Fans even found that the foreign versions of the film’s trailer in French and Italian were more accurate and impressive than Pratt’s in the lead role of red.
“In spite of everything, I was given to see the trailer of Super Mario Bros. and Chris Pratt is disappointing,” wrote one Twitter user, adding: “Whoever expresses Mario in the French dub nails it. “
Pratt’s film’s casting as the lead role even sparked an online verbal exchange over whether or not classic actors should be considered for voice acting roles.
“Chris Pratt as Mario is a wonderful example of why you rent voice actors for voice acting roles,” one Twitter user wrote.
Despite the debates, enthusiasts are still excited to see their favorite video game characters come to life on screen: the trailer racked up more than 3 million views in less than 24 hours on YouTube.

Alongside Pratt is a star-studded movie with Jack Black as the fierce Bowser, Charlie Day as Luigi, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong.
Charles Martinet, known for his portrayal of Mario and Luigi in the original video game series since 1992, is also part of the project.
To create the film, Nintendo partnered with Illumination Entertainment, to spawn the Despicable Me and Minions film franchise.
The Super Mario Bros. movie is scheduled for April 7, 2023.
