Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy to direct new Star Wars film

Ms. Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has been tapped to direct a new Star Wars film with Damon Lindelof as co-writer.

According to Entertainment Deadline, Lucasfilm’s task is lately in the script phase. (Also read: Interview with Ms. Marvel Director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy)

The film is announced as Lucasmovie’s first big screen main after 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Episode IX. The studio has focused on his television projects: The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, in recent years since.

Obaid-Chinoy, known for her Oscar-winning short documentaries Saving Face, A Girl in the River and The Price of Forgiveness, recently directed several episodes of the hit Disney series, Ms Marvel.

Speaking to the Hindustan Times about Ms Marvel’s career and presenting a story on The Partition, he said: “When we were on the platform, there were almost a thousand extras on set of the level we had returned to in 1947. When Kamala walked across the platform, listening to those snippets of conversations, there was a time when all of us on set couldn’t recreate Partition and tell this story to this generation. During this time, we filmed her walking on this platform, we were actually transported to 1947. Each of us felt the pain of what these families were going through and it was as if we were witnessing hitale.
