A Tri-Cities youth known as the victim of a weekend shooting. He died in his car.

A 19-year-old discovered dead in a crash with a gunshot wound Saturday night has been known as Julian Chavez of Kennewick through the Benton County coroner’s office.

Coroner Bill Leach said an autopsy was scheduled in Spokane on Tuesday.

“He was a smart, smiling kid,” according to GoFundMe, which began helping his circle of family pay for the funeral.

The online fundraising site described him as an artist, a skill he planned to use as a barber. I was saving money to move on to barbershop school.

“Unfortunately for all of us, this will not happen because he kidnapped him so suddenly and abruptly,” according to the fundraiser. “He will never be able to achieve his dreams. “

Chavez did belong to a gang, according to a social media post through one of his aunts.

The death is being investigated as the fifteenth murder this year in Benton County, Washington, some of them in Kennewick.

The shots were reported at 9:15 p. m. in the 1100 block of West 5th Avenue, according to police reports. Officers arrived to notice that a car had crashed into a parked vehicle, with one man killed one of them.

Police could see that the car had been hit by gunfire and later discovered that the deceased man had also been shot. He was sitting in the driver’s seat, according to initial dispatch reports.

Police have released more important points of the shooting or know a suspect.

It’s the third shooting in Kennewick this weekend.

A teenager was shot Friday night in a car on Columbia Center Boulevard across from the mall near Shari’s Cafe and Pies and Men’s Warehouse.

According to police, his wound does not appear to be life-threatening. Adrian Cole, 20, was arrested later that night in a space in the 1100 block of South Olympia Place in Kennewick and jailed in the Benton County Jail on suspicion of shooting driving.

Cole is scheduled to appear Monday in Benton County Courthouse.

Then, around 1:15 a. m. on Saturday, Kennewick police reported that cars had been hit by bullets in the 1500 block of South Olympia Street, not far from where Cole was arrested.

The 15 homicides recorded like this this year, which do not come with homicides from moving vehicles, are a record, breaking last year’s record of 10 homicides.
