If you have dreamed of living in Italy, your wish is about to come true. And even better: you may get paid to move to Italy.
The charming Mediterranean island of Sardinia is willing to pay €15,000 each (around €14,976) to settle there. new citizens to fight against the declining population.
And the Sardinian takes it seriously, setting aside 45 million euros, enough to subsidize 3,000 scholarships of up to $15,000 each.
Other parts of Italy are similar cash pledges to attract a new population, from the Calabria region, which provides a handful of new citizens with about $33,000 each, to the town of Santo Stefano di Sessanio, which has provided others with up to $52,500 in scholarships to settle and paintings there.
In the United States, there have been programs, with regions, cities, and states paying other people to settle there.
“We have created the conditions for other young people to remain and [develop] the economic fabric of the most fragile territories,” said Christian Solinas, president of Sardinia. “There can be no expansion without a genuine valorization of the territories, the interior and maximum disadvantaged areas, which will have to go through new repopulation policies. “
So what do you want to know? As with all those programs, there is a catch. To be eligible, you will need to move to a Sardinian city of less than 3,000 inhabitants. Cash will also need to be used to renovate a home. You have to live there all the time (sorry, holiday villas are not allowed). And within 18 months you will have to sign in Sardinia as a permanent residence.
But what praise it is. Sardinia, the largest island of the moment in the Mediterranean, stands out for its transparent waters, the ruins of the Bronze Age and the delicious cuisine like the trapped lobster. It has more than 1,200 miles of seashore dotted with sandy beaches and a mountainous interior covered with hiking trails.
Among the captivating villages eligible for the program are Galtellì (popular for hiking) and Calasetta (known for its stunning white sand beaches).
