An effort to redevelop a Menomonee Valley in Milwaukee is gaining a big boost thanks to a $3. 2 million federal grant.

It will be used to build streets and public innovations similar to the Kneeland Properties site, according to Wednesday’s announcement from the city’s Department of Development.

This 15-acre site is located between West Mt. Vernon Avenue and Menomonee River, east of Standard Electric Supply Co. , 222 N. Embmber Lane.

About 10 acres are owned by the city, with five acres of the High Rise Bridge on I-43 owned by the state Department of Transportation.

The site of Kneeland Properties, which is away from the city streets, has been used as a coal garage domain for nearly a century and is now dormant.

More: The downtown Park East Freeway has been replaced by a side street and new development. Some will now eliminate I-794 while the DOT considers repairs.

The City’s Redevelopment Authority and others have prepared sites for redevelopment through environmental pollution, making plans for roads and other infrastructure, and recruiting clients for moderate industrial development, according to DCD.

The federal grant is funded through the U. S. Federal Rescue Plan Act. The U. S. Department of Commerce and the U. S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration are in the U. S. Department of Commerce. U. S.

It will be complemented by $798,540 in the local budget and is expected to generate progression with 140 jobs and $10. 5 million in personal investment, according to the DCD statement.

“For years, Menomonee Valley has seen new business progression and economic growth,” said Mayor Cavalier Johnson.

“The Kneeland Properties is one of the remaining parcels in the valley that will build on this positive momentum,” Johnson said in a statement.
