Northport City Council Chairman Jeff Hogg plans to build more than just a water park in the city — he expects to see an adventure park and sports complex built on 3 separate sites, he told Thread on Friday.
Hogg has long been an advocate of bringing exclusive entertainment features to the city, and last September his council voted unanimously to spend $700,000 on 151 acres of land off Rose Boulevard. Many speculated that the land would be the eventual water park hogg pushed. to build.
That replaced Thursday night, when Hogg and the town reached an agreement to buy another parcel of land on U. S. Highway 82. It was in the U. S. after Big Lots and Tractor Supply Co. , and beyond restaurants Taco Casa and Zaxbys.
On the land the city bought last year, Hogg said he is now contemplating an adventure park.
“The 151 acres that were presented to us were of such a small value that we couldn’t turn them down and at the time we were looking for various quality of life products like a water park, a sports complex and we also had the ambition to turn it into a kind of adventure park, so taking this land at a low value was a win for everyone. ” Hogg said. it makes sense to set up an adventure park there and look for anything else in terms of water park and sports complex. “
For those unfamiliar with the concept, Hogg said an adventure park would be geared toward recreational activities.
“It’s for your other people who like to be outdoors, it’s more robust, with mountain biking or bird watching, there may be canoeing and kayaking, rowing, rope courses, let’s put a zip line on the property. It’s just more outdoor adventures, strong guy,” he said. “
Hogg said the city is looking for a smart terrain for a sports complex of some kind, completely separate from the water park and adventure park concepts.
“We need to see all of those projects being carried out simultaneously,” Hogg said. “When we brought in this one-cent sales tax a few years ago, we said we would separate those budgets from Northport First, we would do things that other people would just see and enjoy and need to see the inner city and not just absorb the cash into the general fund. I think I did a smart job with that, with what’s been done so far and where we’re headed.
Hogg did not have a concrete timeline for the progression of the projects, but said that the 3 concepts were still in the initial stages.
“This is just a land acquisition, and the next phase will be the design phase. We’re going to place the right people, we’re going to ask for a quote, we’re going to keep meeting with other municipalities that have been successful, we’re going to see what they’ve done and what they like and what they don’t like, what’s been positive and what they would change,” Hogg said. that everyone can be satisfied. “
