Robbinsdale Schools Launch New COVID-19 Guidelines for School Year

Schools in the Robbinsdale domain have updated their COVID-19 policies to make the mask optional, disrupt staff’s vaccination mandate, and not require students or staff to remain at home if they are in close contact with someone with COVID-19.

“We used to apologize to students if they weren’t vaccinated and had been exposed or if they weren’t feeling well,” said Meghan Hickey, director of student services. “We forced them not to go to school until they tested negative for COVID. Now, we only exclude students from school if they test positive for COVID.

The district will continue to provide COVID testing to students in schools if required and will disinfect high-touch surfaces in all schools.

The district has also recently responded to parents’ considerations about the backlog of monkeypox cases in the metropolitan area.

“Although monkeypox is a serious disease and we want to take precautions, it is vital to note that it is another covid-19 disease. It doesn’t seem to spread so easily. It spreads through physical person-to-person contact and through coming into contact with elements or surfaces that have been affected by the rash of an inflamed person,” the district reads.

Hickey said the district is ready for a pandemic situation, if monkeypox reaches that level.
