“We call on the Saudi government to release Salma, allowing her to return to caring for the children and complete her education safely in the UK,” freedom initiative said in a statement.

“Tweeting in solidarity with women’s rights activists is a crime,” she added.

The conviction comes weeks after US President Joe Biden met with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah on July 15, which human rights activists say could worsen the kingdom’s crackdown on human rights activists.
