Nebraska BBB Warns Sports Enthusiasts about Streaming Scams That Can Cost You Hundreds

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – As we enter fall sports in Nebraska, the Better Business Bureau is warning about fraudulent sports streaming services.

Nebraska’s Josh Planos BBB says streaming scams come from another bureaucracy and target unsuspecting people.

“Scammers are aware that this is a developing market and that there is a group of other people who are renewing themselves and who are willing to pay a certain amount of money to have those games,” he said.

The BBB has reported a small number of cases in Nebraska in 2021, but says the scams are like wildfire.

“We’ve noticed that it’s not just here in Nebraska, it’s not just at the regional level,” Planos said.

He said state associations that oversee athletics at top schools in New Mexico, Indiana and North Carolina have issued warnings about scams.

“The anticipation is that those types of flows and those types of scams will accumulate in 2022,” said Planos.

Talking the first time you come across a fake link or stream can save you or many other dollars.

“If possible, pay by credit card when you can,” he said. “There are built-in layers of fraud coverage that credit cards provide, unlike other payment methods, even if you know that most likely when you fall victim to a scam, you don’t see that money. “
