NEW YORK – The number of other people attending Labor Day weekend is expected to recover to pre-pandemic levels and, in all likelihood, set new records in some cases, according to several agencies.

The total number of nights booked on short-term rental platforms like Airbnb and Vrbo increased by more than 16% this Labor Day weekend from pre-pandemic levels to short-term rental analytics company AirDNA.

The average value of a domestic hotel this weekend increased 32% from 2019 and 6% from 2021 levels, according to search engine KAYAK.
Even overseas travel, which has been slow to return to pre-pandemic grades due to COVID-19 restrictions, is expected to surpass 2019 grades this weekend.
International flight bookings this weekend rose 14% from pre-pandemic levels, according to the Scheduled Flight Ticketing Database ForwardKeys. AAA said foreign reserves in all segments will more than double last year’s total.
Flight cancellations are down since Labor Day weekend in 2021, while delays are on the rise.
Since Aug. 17, more than 4,900 U. S. flights, or about 1. 8 percent of the planned total, have been canceled and 56,700 delayed, according to flight-tracking service FlightAware.
Structural airline delays and workforce problems in the industry may lead to roadblocks and disruptions to the holidays this weekend, said Robert Cole, an analyst at Phocuswright, a global market research firm.
“The big question at the end of the week will be whether it’s worth it,” he added.
