Hollywood legend Leonardo DiCaprio praised the return of bison to nature in the UK even though the animals consumed raw liver during the filming of his Oscar-winning film, The Revenant.
The global star took to social media to share his appreciation for the assignment of West Blean and Thornden Woods between Canterbury and Herne Bay in Kent, a county in south-east England, UK. An organization of 4 bison has been wandering the forest for a month, temporarily getting used to their new environment and boosting biodiversity.
In a Facebook post, environmental activist DiCaprio said: “The European bison is the largest land animal on the continent and disappeared into the wild a century ago. They are recovering through reintroduction assignments across Europe, and recently 3 were released into Kent Camp at Canterbury, the first wild bison to roam Britain in thousands of years. Wilder Blean’s task is to let the habit of animals’ herbs feed the forest of advertising pines in herb wood, allowing new plants, insects and wild animals to thrive in this habitat.
The £1. 1 million scheme, led by the Wildwood Trust and Kent Wildlife Trust, is the first of its kind in the UK and is expected to pioneer other spaces to suit their needs.
The first month was a success, with the site’s bison guards reading other character features within the herd. The animals, which eat up to 77 pounds of plants per day, leave nutrient-rich feces that attract insects, consistent with birds. dinner in manure.
Ranger Donovan Wright said, “Bison have already had a remarkable impact. I didn’t expect it to be so sudden, but literally from day one you can feel his presence in the forest. “
“We’ve noticed that they create a network of trails that open trails up to a meter wide through dense thickets of silver birch trees that were once nearly impenetrable. Now you can comfortably walk along the bison trails. It is a privilege to spend time with bison and witness the adjustments in the forest. Every day I am amazed. “
Each with its own personality, the bison has its peculiarities and characteristics. The matriarch has developed a taste for ferns, while the calf likes to nibble on brambles.
Ranger Tom Gibbs said: “Although they are very wild animals, they have different personalities. I saw the two young women playing and enjoying their surroundings. They jump in the air when excited, chase and run. They also have quite a bit of express head movements when they play. They enjoy being outside, it’s fantastic that they’re comfortable enough to interact in this way.
