In those times, we desperately want to be reminded of what unites us as Americans. Now, I’m not fooled by our position as a divided nation, especially with the midterm elections less than 70 days away, but I the President has a genuine opportunity to play with our “best angels,” and that starts with the comments he made last Thursday when he called former President Donald Trump semi-fascism and his “excessive maga philosophy. “
DEMINGS, REVEALING HIS “MOST IMPORTANT” PROBLEM, REJECTS INFLATION: “LET’S LET IT GO”
There is no doubt that what Trump did in the weeks leading up to January 6 and in the nearly two years that followed is only unconstitutional but undemocratic extremism. In his failed efforts to hold on to strength after the 2020 election and his continued ion of American democracy, Trump has shaken the very foundations of our republic.
Elections are about contrasting visions of America and fighting like a demon for its ideals and values. It is this same festival of ideals in a relaxed society that has made American democracy, though messy, the envy of the world. It is imperative that Democrats and Republicans do not get lost in this fight. Trump probably didn’t win Democratic votes when he called us socialists and communists in 2020. Similarly, President Joe Biden probably didn’t get many Republicans on our column when he called the MAGA motion semi. -fascist.
With that in mind, Biden can use Thursday’s speech to explain his comments and focus his complaint directly on his predecessor and the many facilitators of Trump’s election lies who hold elected office lately. Democratic leaders, you will also have to make it clear that the majority of Americans who supported Trump in 2016 and 2020 are not fascists, semi-fascist or not. Most of the other people who have supported Trump, from time to time, are patriots. Americans who just do it differently than me.

Biden won the Democratic number one and defeated Trump because of his character and commitment to reaffirming our nation’s founding ideals. In the U. S. Senate. As a U. S. citizen and then as vice president, he befriended some of the most ardent conservatives. He even praised some of them at their funerals; not because he approved of their political convictions, but because he took the time to get to know their hearts.
Since taking office, the president has achieved incredible bipartisan legislative victories in infrastructure, gun control, veterans, and global competitiveness; these last expenses ensure their approval only in recent months. As Biden said many times during the election campaign: a president’s words matter, yet a president’s moves and ability to win victories for other Americans matter more.

On Thursday night, Biden may once again appeal to the most productive angels of our nature, even though our partisan passions may have strained our affections. This will have to start by denouncing the undemocratic words and deeds of our compatriots, but not by portraying both sides with a broad brush. America remains that “brilliant people on the hill” as President Ronald Reagan described it to us. We just want to be reminded of this in Philadelphia: the most productive backdrop for this message.
