GOTHENBURG, Sweden, Aug. 31, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — To decrease the use of natural resources and the environmental impact on its trucks, Renault Trucks is taking steps to bring its business operations into a circular economy approach. Renault Trucks’ Used Parts Plant is the logical continuation of the used truck refurbishment and refurbishment operations carried out respectively at its Used Truck Vehicle Plant in Bourg-en-Bresse and at its Limoges plant. In this commercial facility located in Vénissieux, the brand’s trolleys will be dismantled and their portions reused.
Over the past five years, Renault Trucks has invested in the circular economy, applying a threefold aspect of regeneration, reuse and recycling of used trucks.
Renault Trucks carries out projects to extend the life of the cars it sells. For example, used trucks are reconditioned according to strict business processes at the Used Truck Factory, cars are updated with the latest technologies at the Lyon refurbishment center, and used models of special series are also presented for sale.
Continuing with its project, the manufacturer announces the creation of its Used Parts Factory, a commercial site completely committed to the recycling of trucks and the reuse of recovered portions and raw materials. The initiative was based on an initial feasibility study carried out in 2020 through Renault Trucks in collaboration with Indra’s Specialist in Car Recycling and ADEME.
The Used Parts Factory recycles trucks at the end of their useful life
Renault Trucks, which has announced its goal of recycling trucks at the end of their useful life and reusing their spare parts, opens a committed plant at the center of its production plant in Lyon-Vénissieux. This 3,000 m2 plant, built as close as possible to the logistics centre will house used high-mileage cars from Renault Trucks, as well as some parts that still have significant potential for reuse. Renault Trucks cars and their factors are designed to last more than 1. 5 million kilometers.
The Renault Trucks at the end of their life will enter the used parts factory to be dismantled. Operators will remove items that were previously considered reusable (engine, gearbox, cab, fuel tank, bumpers, baffles, etc. ).
Once the portions are removed for reuse, the other factors will be recycled. The rails, for example, will be cut and then sent to the nearby foundry. The steel extracted from the portions will be used to make a new vehicle.
The components for reuse will then be checked, cleaned and labelled for reference and traceability purposes. These used spare parts will be sent to the nearest Renault Trucks spare parts warehouse, along with new spare parts.
Used Parts through Renault Trucks: a manufacturer of used spare parts
Like new spare parts, used spare parts advertised with the label “Used parts through Renault Trucks” will be delivered to dealers in the manufacturer’s online spare parts market. These used spare parts will be covered by a manufacturer’s warranty and your charge will be particularly lower than that of the new spare parts.
As for the used portions of its old vehicle levels, Renault Trucks continues its collaboration with Indra Automotive Recycling and will offer its network of intermediaries a variety of portions from scrapping operations carried out through the recycling specialist.
With this new offering, Renault Trucks continues to move towards carbon neutrality. It also addresses the shortage of uncooked parts and fabrics that affects the industry as a whole.
