Amid a surge in COVID-19 cases in the country’s capital, the number of hospitalizations has nearly doubled in more than a fortnight, and authorities say other people with comorbidities are being admitted to hospitals.
Although the accumulation of infections and hospitalizations is not yet alarming, experts have reiterated the need to wear a mask and stick to Covid-friendly behavior.

Of the 9,405 beds available for coronavirus patients in Delhi, 307 (3. 26%) were occupied on August 1. The occupancy rate was 3. 75% on August 2 and 4% the next day. It continued to increase almost every day thereafter and stood at 6. 24% on August 16.
The occupancy rate was 5% on August 6 and 5. 97% on August 11. The occupancy rate was 6. 13% on August 12 and fell to 5. 99% the next day. It rose to 6. 21% on August 14 and stood at 6. 31% on August 15.
Dr. Vikas Maurya, Director and HOD, Pneumology, Fortis Hospital Shalimar Bagh, said that in the last week, they were seeing an increase in hospital admissions due to viral infection.
“Most patients are those who have multiple comorbidities and some of them are also not vaccinated. Some patients have also had lung involvement, meaning they needed an antiviral drug and other covid medications,” he added.
Dr. Suresh Kumar, director of LNJP Public Hospital, agreed with Maurya.
“In the last week or so, the number of patients has increased. Previously, we used to see 4 to 10 patients per day, but now we get 8 to 10 patients per day,” he said.
On Tuesday, the government said hospitals had been put on high alert.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had suggested that other people be infected with the precautionary dose of the vaccine, as it ensures that other people are more opposed to the virus.
“90% of coronavirus patients admitted to hospitals are patients who have taken two doses of the vaccine.
“At the same time, only 10% of patients became inflamed with corona after the third dose of the vaccine. It is clear that other people who apply precautionary doses are more immune to corona infection,” he said.
Delhi on Tuesday reported 917 new Covid cases with a positivity rate of 19. 20 percent, in more than two hundred days, and 3 more deaths due to infection, according to knowledge shared through the city’s fitness service.
